Since gaining a PhD in theoretical physics Stephen has worked in a number of universities in a variety of roles. His interest in exploring the use of digital technology to enhance teaching and learning dates back to pre-Web days, when he worked in a physics department that was part of a UK-wide consortium developing an innovative approach to teaching the subject. He has been disappointed in lecturers' take-up of technology ever since.Stephen is active in outreach activities: he has published eight books and is currently working on his ninth. His TED talk on aliens (or the lack thereof) has been viewed 4.8 million times.
